It is your own portfolio
We can keep track of our Spanish work
It helps you to know what you know
I like the questions in the Biography book
It lets you see your progress
It is not tough
|
It helps me to know what Spanish I know
We can keep track of what we are doing
It is your own personal file thing, you can write whatever you want and it is personal
It is not like a test everything you write is right
It is not like a normal school book
You know the answers because it is about you, it is a personal notebook

What is an ELP?
The ELP is a personal document in which language learners can record and reflect on their language learning and cultural experiences. ELPs vary according to countries and educational contexts. However they all share common criteria and are all examined by a Council of Europe Validation Committee which accords an accreditation number.
For further information on the European Language Portfolio, please see the Council of Europe website - http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/portfolio/Default.asp?L=E&M=/main_pages/welcome.html
The MLPSI My ELP
The MLPSI model of the ELP has been accorded the highest praise by the Accreditation Committee. It fulfils all the stringent criteria for an ELP to attain accreditation – it fulfils the two functions of an ELP – its pedagogic function, whereby it is hoped it will motivate learners to improve their ability to communicate in different languages, to learn additional languages and to seek new intercultural experiences. It will incite and help learners to reflect on their objectives, their ways of learning and their success in language learning. Also, it will also help them plan their learning and learn autonomously, as well as enhance their plurilingual and intercultural experiences. The ELP also has a documentative and reporting function - it aims to document its holder's plurilingual language proficiency and experiences in other languages in a comprehensive, informative, transparent and reliable way. The instruments contained in the ELP help learners to take stock of the levels of competence they have reached in their learning of one or several languages in order to enable them to inform others in a detailed and internationally comparable manner.
However, our MLPSI model goes several steps further – as well as the three constituent parts of a portfolio, the passport, biography and dossier, our model also contains a very attractive Young Learners Guide, which further promotes the idea of autonomous learning and explains in a very child-friendly manner how to best use the ELP. It also contains an explanatory booklet for adults, which we hope will encourage parents to work with their children in using the ELP.
My European Language Portfolio and the Primary Curriculum
The ELP itself has been devised with absolute regard for the revised primary and the modern languages curricula and caters superbly for the three core strands of communicative competence, language awareness and cultural and intercultural awareness. It also focuses on learning strategies and the linking of modern languages and other areas of the curriculum As such, it is not only a superlative learning tool, but it will also be a very useful teaching tool – and as in addition to elements of the four target languages of the Initiative, the ELP also is fully bilingual in English and Gaeilge, we see its use therefore not only in the context of our work, but in the broader context of the revised primary curriculum in the learning of Irish and indeed of English as an additional language.
